The French fire service turned Twitch's dead air into a surveillance network. Every streamer's 'Starting soon' screen is minutes of viewers waiting with nothing to look at; Havas Play France replaced it with live feeds from forest-watch cameras and asked chat to type the camera number if they saw smoke. 646 streamers took part, putting roughly 600,000 followers on watch for 2,190 hours; five fires were reported early and about 1,700 hectares of forest protected. It is a rare case of gaming culture's attention being redirected rather than borrowed: no sponsorship, no branded skin, just a civic use for a behaviour streamers and viewers already have. Expansion to Spain and Italy is planned.
